The management of Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), ably led by the Executive Secretary, Alh Mouktar Atimah, extended flood sensitization visit to HRH Ibrahim Gambo Mohammed Kabir Maikarfi IV, Maigari of Lokoja.

The visit, according to the Executive Secretary SEMA, is in response to preparedness and mitigation against impending flood as recently predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which will affect some States in Nigeria, including Kogi State.

While Speaking during the sensitization visit, Alh Mouktar Atimah hinted that the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has charged SEMA to embark on state-wide sensitization, and appealed to the Royal father to take proactive measures in sensitizing his subjects against flooding as the heavy downpour season had intensified, stressing the need for timely awareness that could aid movement of people from low-land to higher ground and should be on alert.

He further referenced to past fact-based on the cooperation of his subjects with SEMA during and post flood. He, however, sought for committed collaboration and synergy that could complement the proactive measures and prepeardness of the Agency.

Responding, HRH Ibrahim Gambo Mohammed Kabir Maikarfi IV, Maigari of Lokoja, appreciated the high power delegation for the sensitization visit to his palace.

The Royal father applauded the proactive steps that SEMA and other emergency responders had embarked on to mitigate flood disaster. He further stated that within his capacity, his notable subjects would be sensitized, and shall equally direct people at low-land to relocate to highland as heavy downpour season continues.

Also in attendance were the Special Adviser on SEMA to Kogi State Governor, Dr Sandra Musa, as well as Special Adviser on Emergency to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Shuaibu, and the representative from Ministry of Health, Dr Gabriel Atuluku.

Development Patners and humantarian stakeholders present includes Nigerian Red Cross and International Organisation on Migration, who advocated for intensified community-based awareness campaigns, and reiterated their readiness to support Kogi State Government through SEMA in mitigating the anticipated flood disaster.
