The Speaker of Kogi state House of Assembly has assured the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello that they will mobilise other assembly members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) across the country for his 2023 presidential ambition.
The Speaker stated this while addressing newen in Lokoja.
Kolawole who is the current National Treasurer of Conference of Nigeria Speakers, said all APC members of the state House of Assemblies in the country, are automatic national delegates, stressing that he will lobby them to give their votes to Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“House of Assembly members across the country are automatic delegates and when you put us together, we are more than a thousands.”
So if I can use my position as speaker to talk to my colleagues in APC states and also lobby our party members to mobilize for us, it would be a walk over for our governor to win the party’s presidential ticket.”
He said since inception of Democracy in 1999, north central, especially Kogi state, have never been given the chance to be President or Vice President.
Reacting on the recent call on Governor Yahaya Bello by the state Assembly to contest for President of Nigeria come 2023, the Speaker said the call was to encourage the governor to contest, because he has the capability as a detribalised leader, to rule the country.
“You know Yahaya Bello did not say he want to contest for president, we are only urging him to contest for president which I believe by the grace of God in 2023, he will rule this country.”
“Yahaya Bello has what we call a Lion heart, we all know what he pass through to bring the state to stability, especially in the area of security, women and youth empowerment and so on.”
“To me what we are saying is that we in the Assembly look at him as our own, in fact, in the Assembly we call him the 26th member of the House, he is our political leader, everybody want his leader to go higher and that is why we are calling him to move forward so that we can benefit from the national cake.”
“Yes we have been calling him to declare his presidential ambition, but he is yet to answer the call, but I believe that he is making consultations.”
“Not only we the Assembly members are making this call, a lot of groups in the state and outside the state are also calling him to contest as a matter of fact I always go to the church to offer special prayer to God to make Yahaya Bello to contest the presidential election.”
“Yahaya Bello as president of Nigeria, will not only benefit Kogi people but also enhance political harmony particularly in the North. His presidency, will of course give back life to the ailing Ajaokuta steel company and also raise other moribund industries in the country,” the Speaker added.
