A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Suberu Yusuf John, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency of Kogi State, pledging to tackle insecurity, unemployment, and infrastructural decay in the area.
Speaking during his declaration in Adavi, Hon. Suberu described his ambition as a “call to service” driven by the harsh realities faced by the people, particularly unemployed youths, struggling widows, and underprivileged children.
“This is not just a speech; it is a confession and a cry from the heart of a son who can no longer remain silent while his people suffer,” he said.
The aspirant lamented what he described as years of neglect of the constituency, noting that while the people remain politically relevant during elections, they are often abandoned afterwards.
“Our votes are needed, but our voices are ignored. That must change,” he stated.
He, however, commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for recent interventions in road infrastructure across parts of the constituency.
Hon. Suberu called on leaders of the APC to prioritize competence, compassion, and accessibility in selecting the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections.
“When the time comes, choose someone who understands the pain and hopes of our people and will remain accountable after the election,” he appealed.
Outlining his agenda, the aspirant promised to focus on security, youth and women empowerment, education, infrastructure development, and effective representation at the National Assembly.
He assured constituents that farmers would be able to return to their farms safely, while youths would benefit from job creation initiatives and entrepreneurship programmes.
As part of efforts to demonstrate his commitment to grassroots development, Hon. Suberu announced the award of 40 scholarships to students, distribution of food items to 1,500 residents, financial support to 100 individuals, and provision of mobile phones to selected beneficiaries.
“This is not politics; this is service,” he emphasized.
He urged the people of Adavi and Okehi to support his aspiration, promising to be a strong voice for the constituency in Abuja if elected.
“I may not be perfect, but I am committed to building a better future for our people,” he said.
The declaration event was attended by party leaders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, security personnel, and supporters from across the constituency.
Also speaking, the immediate past Council Leader of Adavi Local Government, Hon. Abdulmalik Fatimat, thrown her weight behind the aspiration of Hon. Suberu Yusuf John, to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives, citing his track record in empowerment and community development.
Fatimat described the occasion as the emergence of “a new voice of service, empowerment and renewed hope.”
She commended Suberu for his impactful leadership, particularly his empowerment programmes, scholarship initiatives and support for orphans and the less privileged, which she said have transformed many lives across the area.
According to her, several youths have benefitted from empowerment schemes, while many students have been able to pursue their education with renewed confidence due to scholarship opportunities provided by the aspirant.
