The Lukpan of Lokoja and former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Sulieman Babadoko, has called on the people of Lokoja to rally behind Senator Sunday Steve Karimi for a second term in office, stressing that the lawmaker has delivered tangible results that justify continuity.
Speaking in Lokoja, Hon. Babadoko, who served as the Director-General of Karimi’s campaign in the 2023 elections, noted that the Senator’s track record over the last 2 years speaks volumes of his commitment to the development and welfare of Lokoja people.
“Karimi has touched virtually every sector of our lives, education, health, infrastructure, security, empowerment, and religious harmony. He has laid foundations that only continuity can consolidate,” Babadoko stated.
According to him, some of the landmark interventions by Hon. Karimi include:
Education: The construction of classrooms in the Muslim Community Secondary School, as well as the launch of a ₦100 million scholarship fund to support tertiary students across Kogi West senatorial district.
Water and Power Supply: The facilitation and installation of over 20 solar-powered boreholes across Lokoja Local Government, and the distribution of electricity transformers to several wards.
Healthcare and Security: The ongoing construction of a cottage hospital at Edo in Kakanda Ward, Lokoja II, and the recent award of the fencing project at Adankolo Police Station to enhance community security.
Humanitarian and Religious Support: Regular distribution of food and cash to Muslims during Ramadan and Sallah, including ₦1 million each to central mosques in Lokoja; similar gestures of food and cash support to Christians and churches across the city.
Youth and Women Empowerment: Securing employment opportunities for youths and women in federal agencies and paramilitary institutions.
Emergency Relief and Agriculture: Donation of ₦10 million to victims of the Ebwa Kupa crisis; rehabilitation of the Lokoja Fish Market; donation of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to farmers in Lokoja.
Trader and Cooperative Empowerment: Support for 400 traders under the Lokoja Arewa Traders Union with millions of naira; empowerment of 1,000 traders with ₦100,000 each across the seven local governments; disbursement of ₦100 million to 50 cooperative groups after training; and the empowerment of five cooperative groups in Lokoja with ₦15 million.
Hon. Babadoko emphasized that these interventions are not mere campaign promises but practical results delivered within just one term.
“Karimi has proven himself as a servant-leader who understands the needs of his people. Lokoja has never had it this good, and for us to sustain this momentum, it is only fair and wise that we return him for another term to complete his eight years,” Babadoko said.
He urged stakeholders, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths, women, and the electorate at large to unite behind Senator Karimi, describing his re-election as a guarantee for more development and inclusiveness in Lokoja and beyond.
