The world in which we live is characterized by deeply unequal sharing of adversaries between the man and woman.Yes, gender inequality exists in most part of the world and most especially our country, Nigeria.
However, inequality between the man and the woman can take many different forms, in Kogi state, a state that boasts itself as that populated by enlightened men and women, inequality manifests itself in the unequal representations of the woman and man in various works of life..Differences in opportunities, persistent gender stereotypes, and even gender discrimination.
One of the most troublesome issues is the extremely unequal representations of the woman in government and administrative office.Nevertheless, it is expected that kogi state must this time distinguish itself by changing the narrative of the women politically by supporting a woman to be the next governor of the state, come 2024.
We must show the world that the Kogi woman has evolved from the shackles of political discriminations and Huddle’s placed before them that hinders their political growth to take their rightful place as partners with the men in development because we have accepted the fact that the times have changed in Kogi state where the roles of women in society are no longer limited and that we are living in a modern Kogi state.
We must show the world that we ready more than ever before to trust our women enough by this time around giving them bigger roles to play politically in dealing with political,social economic problems plaguing the state.
We must also show the world that we in Kogi state do not favour motherhood over political and professional involvements of the Kogi woman by not identifying leadership with masculine behaviour, power struggles,private property disputes, corruption and hypocrisy.
We must this time around show the world that we are sincere in our quest for an inclusive society by supporting the women in their efforts to contribute to society rather than crush their struggles with irony, skepticism, and empty words.
The role of the woman in the society has changed a lot in the last decade in politics in many states of the our country..Gone are the days when the woman are seen only as wives whose major roles are to cook, clean, take care of their children and limited from the responsibilities of leadership and even earning money for the families because this responsibilities are only left for the man.
Gone are the days when women were not allowed to vote and be voted for or even work outside the homes while men took care of having jobs and paying the bill.
The movement towards modern living must start to reflect in the lifestyles of our people today by allowing the woman in the state who has consistently supoorted by voting the men as Governor have a taste of leadership because what is good for the gander is also good for the goose as this would to a large extent contribute to the progress of the state.
Discrimination against the women on the basis of their gender politically which do not allow them to fully participate in the Democratic process has largely hindered the achievements of the ongoing changes in social, political and economic activities of Kogi state, so there is every need today raise our women’s role in society by going all out to break the stereotypes of treating humans by gender.
We have now that opportunity now that we are preparing in our various political parties to recruit a leader as Governor of the state in 2023 by deliberately allowing a woman this time around occupy the seat of power as Governor of Kogi state.
As we approach the 2023 guber elections in the state, gender issues should be one of the consideration for electing the next governor of the state and this is because we must this time around even correct the previous discriminations against the women by allowing one of them occupy the seat of power as governor of the state.
This will show the world that we are a gender friendly state and it will propel us to beat our chest that equal opportunities, inclusiveness and equal treatment of all gender as enshrined in our national Constitution exist in Kogi state.
The advantages of this feat to us as a people is that we would be ranked as the first state in the country to have completely eliminated gender as a factor in it’s leadership recruitment processes and show that gender equality is a topic of vital significance for our state thus the prerequisite for gender equality represents the participation of both genders in decision making.
For a long time,the women in Kogi state are today in the minority at the decision making levels truth be told.Voting a woman governor for the first time as governor for the first time in Kogi state would give them a sense of political belonging because it would have helped them in achieving parity with the men and in the process breaking the glass ceilings of that which the woman in Kogi state can aspire to be.
Finally, the advantage is also that it will also show the world that in the Kogi state political scene,the difference between the women and men is just a result of their perspective behaviour and show also that in the state women also have the needed influence over decision making because the situation has equalled.
The Kogi woman can actually manage everything and not just in one regular way but with elegance, style,and determination.
Changes in Kogi state we all desired can happen quickly and many unresolved developmental issues can be solved with with the women confident of their equal roles with the men in the state.
Gender activities and identities would then belong and not to the modern Life in Kogi state and the goal of making a woman a governor is to make them have a sense of equal rights politically with the men to grow politically and individually.
In Kogi state we must listen to the call to modernity and vote this time around a woman as governor.
