President General, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE Comr. Ambali Akeem Olatunji says the Country can only be better when adequate attention is given to Local Government Councils in the Country.

Similarly, the NULGE President disclosed that with the steps Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo has taken thus far, he will no doubt be celebrated in his handling of Local Government.

Comrade Ambali was speaking during a visit by the Special Adviser on Labour to Kogi State Governor, Comrade Onuh Edoka and his team to NULGE House, Abuja.

He said the several challenges bedevelling the Country could be attributed to the non attention to local governments, emphasizing the urgent need to change the tide.

The NULGE President General expressed satisfaction on the new government/ Workers relationship in Kogi State, noting that there is a new Sheriff in the state.

According to him, the Kogi State Government should sustain its support for the actualization of local government autonomy being one of the few states to have passed the law.

“Let me say that going by the new development in the State, the new administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will be celebrated”

Comrade Ambali charged the team not to loose sight of their dream for workers, emphasizing that their struggle as former labour leaders should spur them to do more.

The NULGE President General also advised that the government of Kogi State should be at the fore front in the implementation of the coming minimum wage in order to further earn the trust of labour at the national level.

” Do not forget your roots, remember that Kogi was one of the few states to have passed local government autonomy and this is important as well” he averred.

Comrade Onuh Edoka earlier in his address, explained that the visit was to preach the gospel of a new Kogi State under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo whose desire is to make life meaningful for all.

The Special Adviser said Kogi is one of the few states to have identified and appointed seasoned labour leaders into the government, an indication that the Governor has workers at heart.

He itemized some of the interventions so far carried out by the Ododo administration, stressing that the new Kogi State should be seen and projected positively.

Comrade Edoka assured that his team would work hard by adding value to governance in order to guarantee more of appointments in the future.
