Death has occurred in Ogori, Ogori-Magongo Local Government of Kogi State of Pa Matthew Oluwashanu Lawani.
Pa Lawani died peacefully on 8th March,2021 at the ripe age of 94years.
Late Lawani was a patriotic and a religious man throughout his life time,who served the nation, meritoriously as a Police Officer in various capacities and locations across the country.
Late Lawani retired from the Police Force,as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1984 and delved into politics and thereby became the first Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1992.
Pa Lawani was also a devoted Catholic and a staunch member of the Knight of St.Mulumba(KSM).
Meanwhile, a family statement indicates that the final Christian burial rites will be conducted as follows:
Requiem Mass will hold on Friday, 30th April 2021at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Premises, Ogori at 6.00pm prompt while the funeral service will be held on Saturday,1st May, 2021at 9.00am prompt in the same St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Ogori.
Pa Matthew Oluwashanu Lawani is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maria Aiyefe Lawani, children and Grandchildren amongst whom are Mrs. Tola Omoloju, Mr.Eddy Lawani,Mrs. Yemisi Ogunmola,a one time Commissioner in Kogi State, Mrs. Josephine Ayu,Mr.Emma Lawani,Mrs. Kehinde Aladuge and Miss Fatima Oreka Lawani.
He was also blessed with prominent In- laws amongst who are Mr. Mike Omoloju( Fmr. GM, Human Resources, NNPC) Dr.Iyorchia Ayu, one time Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Bode Ogunmola Fmr. Hon. Commissioner for Information, Kogi State.
Pa Lawani will be greatly missed by his family, friends and indeed the Ogori and Magongo communities.
May his soul Rest In Peace. Amen. Attendees are strictly required to observe all the Covid-19 protocols,please.
