NO fewer than 1,000 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have dumped the party to All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu local government council of Kogi State.
The Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole who organised carnival and road show for the relection of governor Yahaya Bello in November 16 Governorship election said 500 members of PDP from Odo-Ape decamped to APC while another 500 from Bunu dumped PDP for APC over the weekend.
Receiving the decampes in Bunu led by the former Chairman of Kabba-Bunu local government council, Hon. Nathaniel Taiwo, the Speaker said governor Bello deserved second term from the people of Okun land.
According to him, the Speaker, Secretary to Kogi State Government, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Agriculture comes from Okun land as he pointed out that just some days ago President Mohammadu Buhari appointed an Okun woman, Dr. Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan, as acting Head of Service of the Federation.
He called on the people of Okun land to rally round governor Bello for his re-election back to Lugard House in November 16.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Director General of APC Campaign Council for November 16th 2019 governorship election, Senator Smart Adeyemi, said the opposition would not get up to 25% of the total votes in that polls.
Senator Adeyemi said Governor Bello has outperformed all previous administrations in the state combined, apart from late Prince Abubakar Audu who laid the foundation for the state following its creation in 1991.
He appraised Governor Bello for the bravery with which he is striving to rebuild Kogi State after the financial torture it had suffered in the past under previous administrations, noting that building the political and economic structures to making a state great like Governor Bello is doing was bound to receive the kind of reaction it is eliciting in some quarters.
The Director General was however quick to admit that Kogi was not the best in the country but added that if the current socioeconomic and political reforms being carried out by the Governor was sustained, the state was on its way to being one of the greatest in Nigeria with time.
He recalled the existence of a cabal codenamed; ‘stakeholders’ who were living large on the state commonwealth as they were being serviced with various sums in millions monthly by the previous governments despite such class of people being already wealthy.
Senator Adeyemi therefore commended the Governor for his pragmatic leadership style and commitment to ensuring equity, unity and justice in resource redistribution across Kogi State.
“We are grateful to have Governor Bello as the number one citizen of the state at this point in time. We are more United and collectively are working for the progress of the state. We no longer look at one another with suspicion. Tribe, ethnicity, religion are all secondary in today’s Kogi State. Thank you Alhaji Yahaya Bello.”
