Fifteen senators dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the National Assembly plenary on Tuesday, July 24 last year led by Dino Melaye and Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kogi and Kano states but only Dino Melaye will be in 9th Senate after the end of the current 8th Senate.
In what could be best described as miracle owing to persecution, politically motivated arrest, several assassination attempt and intimidation by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) both at the federal and Kogi state, Senator Dino Melaye secured his re-election bid against all odds.
The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, had boosted that none of the 15 Senators including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki will be allowed to come back by all means possible.
Oshomole described them as paper weight politicians who won their election to the Senate with the influence of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 election.
“The thing going on is that you have a lot of so-called big masqueraders with very little and no electoral value.”
But with the re-election of Senator Dino Melaye on February 23rd haven won six of the seven Local Government Areas of Kogi West Senatorial District, it will be correct to say the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshomole has been proven wrong by Dino who has shown that he is not a political paper weight but a heavy political weight.
