The zoning may be the usual agitation, and in the end, the North will continue to be at the helm of power like they always do. From my perspective, the coming together of APC was to oust President Goodluck Jonathan from power, and that was already achieved. Still, the likes of Tinubu forget that politics is a game of interest. When the interest of the enemies aligns, they are bound to become friends, here are the three instances that show why a northerner will continue as President come 2023:
Mai Mallam Buni at the affairs of APC
The biggest mistake of Tinubu is not cautioning Adams Oshiomole. Sometimes, we lose some battle to win the bigger battle. In reality, Adams Oshiomole would have let Governor Obaseki focus on the bigger goal that would have further cemented his legacy come 2023. However, he was ousted from power, and Mai Mallam Buni was installed as the caretaker chairman. In my opinion, the title of National Leader is just a name because his people are no longer in control.
The Southwest Overambition
In as much as many hate to hear it, Southwest always shoot themselves in the leg because they believe they are too smart. It is no longer news that there is a rumor of a potential clash between Fayemi and Tinubu over who should come out from Southwest. While some believe TInubu has paid his dues, some believe Fayemi is younger and is what we need. Whatever the case may be, expect in-house war that will obstruct Tinubu’s way.
The Governors Forum Factor
The Governors Forum is spearheaded by Governor Fayemi, who is believed to be nurturing Presidential ambition. Whether Tinubu supporters like it or not, he will have their backing because he has always supported their agitation. Governors like Yahaya Bello and Nasir El-Rufai, who are influential, will always give their backing. Therefore, Tinubu has hurdles to cross.
There will be no Financial Muscle.
In terms of financial capability, we all know that Tinubu is beyond capable. Still, the issue here is that many feel he has had enough and should maintain his godfather status. The like of El-Rufai has never shied away from criticizing him, and now that his aids are no longer in power, potential aspirants will do their all to ensure that they get the better of him.
