The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has lauded the Governors of Kogi and Edo States, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and Senator Monday Okpebholo, describing them as leaders whose humility, simplicity and commitment to the people have continued to earn them public admiration.

The revered monarch gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving the two governors during a courtesy visit to his palace in Ile-Ife.

The Ooni said Governors Ododo and Okpebholo have distinguished themselves through people-oriented leadership, noting that their accessibility and close relationship with the people have translated into meaningful development in their respective states.

He urged political office holders across Nigeria to embrace humility and selfless service, stressing that effective leadership must be anchored on compassion, simplicity and dedication to the welfare of the people.

The traditional ruler also appealed for peaceful conduct ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, urging political actors and their supporters to put the peace and unity of the state above personal and partisan interests.

According to him, preserving the peace of Osun is more important than political ambition, calling on all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the election.

The Ooni also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing what he described as bold economic reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy.

He said the unification of the foreign exchange market, removal of fuel subsidy, improved foreign reserves and increased crude oil production have strengthened Nigeria’s macro-economy, expressing confidence that ongoing efforts to improve the micro-economy would positively impact ordinary Nigerians.

The monarch further praised the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her interventions across the country through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Responding on behalf of the two governors, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo said the visit was to pay homage to the Ooni and also commiserate with him over the death of his elder brother.

Ododo added that they were in Osun State to engage non-indigenes and rally support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the forthcoming governorship election.

He maintained that the APC remains committed to delivering good governance and sustainable development, noting that the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration in the areas of economic reforms, infrastructure and social welfare have positively impacted states such as Kogi and Edo.

Governor Ododo expressed optimism that Osun State would also benefit from the progressive policies of the APC if the party secures victory in the governorship election.

The visit was attended by APC leaders and senior government officials from Kogi and Edo States who accompanied the governors to the Ooni’s palace.
