National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Zonal Inspector Mr. Etsu Muazu Idris has tasked teachers to be God fearing, professional and efficient in their teaching profession.

The Zonal Inspector who gave the charge during a personal Community Development Service (P-CDS) project organized by a serving Corp member in Kogi State Blessing Attah, with the theme ‘Efficiency in Teaching”.

Mr. Etsu who urged teachers to be of noble character and selfless in executing it professional duties, added that, teachers are nation builders and their contributions can never be overestimated.

He however, thanked the Corper for the initiative and urge other to replicate such spirits in their various hosts communities.

In her lecture titled ‘Indispensable teacher and how a teacher can guide a child in discovering his purpose and destiny’, the proprietress of Kogi Academy, Mrs. Mary Egwuda noted that a teacher can help their wards attain its full potential regardless of the way they measure success.

According to her, teachers must be able to motivate her wards, inspire them, guild them against all forms of social vices and have a sound knowledge of their subject.

She further disclosed that for a teacher to be effective and efficient he or she must have a teaching plan, a sense of purpose, good rapor with her students, initiate positive attitude, communicate with parents and attending trainings and workshops for self improvement.

Earlier in her remark, the convener of the program, Corper Blessing Attah disclosed that the project was birthed out of her strong passion and burden for teaching and for teachers.

Blessing disclosed that her past and present experience in teaching environments has showed that teachers are in most cases not adequately taken care of, not minding the fact that the state of mind of the teacher goes a long way in how he impact knowledge on the student.

In her words “as a result of the teaching profession lacking efficiency, my project is directly targeting teachers to equip them with the right knowledge to enable them reach out to the student positively.

“In every field of career, efficiency, diligence and excellence are major key to excel, adding that for a teacher to impact knowledge, he must cultivate the spirit of efficiency as it depict the whole essence of what teaching should be” she stated.

In her lecture, Blessing who talked about how to deal with students with slow assimilation noted that student with such deficiency are mostly term to be dullard and being a victim of mockery, low self esteem among peers.

According to her, students with slow assimilation capacity should be focused on by the teacher in class to create that sense of belonging among other students in the class.

While emphasizing that words of encouragement must be showered on this set of students, she added that personal home lessons should be organized for such students as it will help in determining the child’s weak points and as well create a proper environment for the child to be free in asking questions for clarification.

In their various remarks, a teacher from Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, Mr. Labaran Dauda and a teacher from Kogi Academy, Mrs. Victory Adaji both thanked the convener for bringing them together to enlighten and remind them of what they know before and new skills from retired professional on how to relate with students in the classroom.
