A socio-cultural organisation, the Bassa-Nge Youths Progressive Union, has dismissed reports suggesting tension and a looming crisis in Bassa-Nge Kingdom over the emergence of a new traditional ruler.

In a rejoinder issued on Tuesday in Gboloko, by Signed President Comrade NDA Isah, General Secretary, Comrade Aliyu Yakubu and Bassa-Nge Youths Progressive Union Gboloko and made available to newsmen, the group described as inaccurate a publication titled “Tension Mounts in Bassa-Nge Over Alleged Hijack of Royal Stool, Communities Warn of Looming Crisis,” written by Toyin Adebayo and published on March 23, 2026.

The union said the report was misleading and sensational, alleging that it was driven by selfish interests, particularly by individuals outside the kingdom.

According to the statement, there is no crisis in Bassa-Nge, stressing that the process leading to the emergence of the Etsu Bassa-Nge followed due process and adhered strictly to the customs and traditions of the people.

The group noted that all relevant stakeholders within the kingdom were duly involved at every stage of the selection process, insisting that claims of a “hijack” of the royal stool were unfounded and aimed at causing unnecessary panic.

It further maintained that the kingdom remains peaceful and united, adding that those described as aggrieved parties do not represent the collective will of the Bassa-Nge people but are instead pursuing personal interests capable of disrupting the existing harmony.

The union called on the Kogi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Commissioner, and the state governor to disregard what it termed baseless allegations and the activities of mischief-makers.

It also urged the media and the public to always verify information before publication, particularly on sensitive traditional matters that could threaten communal peace.

Reaffirming its position, the group stressed its commitment to protecting the unity and cultural heritage of Bassa-Nge Kingdom, noting that the traditional institution remains intact and widely respected.
