The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, (FUL), in Kogi State, Prof. Angela Freeman-Miri, has described recent media attack on her as ill multivated, counter productive and huge distractions to the institution.
Professor Freeman-Mirri while addressing journalists in her office, in Lokoja, said she has been a victim of organised conspiracy aimed at removing her from office.
The Vice Chancellor was reacting to an allegation in the social media and some traditional newspaper ( not Guardian) that she was selling employment slot for between N500,000 and N1 million per slot .
The visibly rattled professor Freeman-Mirri said that the story emanated from those who had never seen anything good since the very day she assumed office as the Vice Chancellor of the 8 year old institution.
She said that there was no truth in the story as all employments carried out since assumption of office followed due process of advertising and approved by the Federal character commission.
She said that the number of Jobs that went to other states of the federation was not up to 1/10th of those employed in the current scheme.
“Employments were carried out under the strict supervision of the federal character commission, while available spaces were advertised prior to their being interviewed under the watchful eyes of the federal character commission.” She added.
According to her, she had been a victim of organised conspiracy right from day one in office in spite of olive branch she had been waving at both the staff and the host community.
She said that she is the most vilified vice Chancellor in the country considering the number of petitions against her asking for her removal, simply because she had refused to compromise standard by giving admissions to those who are not qualified.
“They will come to me with lists of those who are deficient in one subject or have not met requirements for admission and expect me to offer them admission, but I will turn down their requests insisting that I will not compromise standard” she said.
