A Magistrate Court sitting in Lokoja on Friday detained a second class traditional ruler  Alhaji. Nasiru Momoh and 30 others in Adavi local government area of Kogi  State at Koton-Karfe prison over counci poll slated for December 12.
The traditional ruler who is the Asema Uka (Otumi – Ajoko), and others  were said to have raised an alarm over the imposition of an unpopular candidate which could ignite crisis in the area.
Recalled that the council leader who is the Senior Special Assistance (SSA) security, Mr. Joseph Omuya  was alleged to have ordered for their detention.
The people of Adavi local government council had protested over the imposition of Mr. Omuya as the sole candidate of APC chairmanship for the coming local government councils poll.
Meanwhile Uka elites at home and in the diaspora has condemned the arrest and detention of one its revered traditional ruler, the Asema Uka, Otumi/Ajoko, His Royal Highness, Mallam Nasiru Momoh, by the Kogi State Police Command.
The elite totally reject this action as it is an affront on the culture, tradition and the subjects of the Royal Father.
The group strongly disapproves the rumour that the arrest and detention of the royal father and thirty others was ordered by the Governor. To the best of our knowledge, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State that we know, will not impinge on the fundamental rights of citizens, let alone, a cradle of our tradition and culture of Ebira people. We see this as a mere name dropping.
The group wishes to call on the Governor to use his good office not only to release the traditional ruler and other people arrested but to identify the politicians behind this act of desecration of our tradition and sanction them accordingly.
We therefore use this medium to advise politicians seeking positions that power is transient and they should refrain from any action that will have long time implication for our community.
Signed:
Mal. Kabiru Danga
Mr. Jacob Adavize
