The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (Kogi L-PRES) has commenced the bid closing and opening exercise for the rehabilitation of nine (9) livestock markets across the state.

The project is part of the commitment of Kogi State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to improve the livestock business in the State

Welcoming the bidders during the event, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulsalam Sagir Mohammed, addressed the participants and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing and promoting a robust and efficient livestock sector, while wishing the participants a successful deliberation.

The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, in his remarks, assured the six (6) participating bidders of a transparent and fair evaluation process, emphasizing that the selection of competent contractors would be based on merit to ensure the project’s success.

He highlighted that the rehabilitated markets would enhance livestock trade by providing secure, well-structured facilities for farmers, traders, and other stakeholders in the value chain.

Dr. Bolarin also took the opportunity to commend His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo for his unwavering support and dedication to transforming the agricultural sector in Kogi State. He noted that the rehabilitation efforts would serve as a catalyst for improving livestock productivity, boosting the incomes of livestock farmers, and fostering economic development.

Also, witnessing the bid opening exercise are key officials, such as Engr. Abas Ibrahim, Director of Electrical at the Ministry of Works; Mr. John Adejoh Agene, a Quantity Surveyor representing the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors; and Mr. S.S. Amoka, Head of Procurement at the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement, who represented the Director-General. Prof. Omeiza Usman of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management also attended.

The bid opening exercise aligns with Kogi L-PRES’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in all aspects of project implementation, ensuring that the goals of sustainable livestock development are achieved for the benefit of the people of Kogi State.
