Kwara state governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq),has lost his father, AGF Abdul-Razaq at the age of 93.
Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq, a member of the deceased’s family made who made the announcement in a release in Ilorin on Saturday said he died at 93.
Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq, said:” With total submission to the will of the Almighty Allah, the AbdulRazaqs of Ilorin Emirate of Kwara State hereby announces the passing of their patriarch and statesman, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho Abdul-Razaq SAN (OFR) at the age of 93 in Abuja.
“He was born in 1927.
“The Mutawali of Ilorin and Tafida of Zazzau(Zaria), who was Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, died peacefully at about 2a.m. on Saturday July 25th, 2020(the 4th day of Dhul-Hijjah 1441 AH.)
“The first lawyer from the Northern Region is survived by his 90-year-old wife, Alhaja Raliat AbdulRazaq, illustrious children, including incumbent Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and grandchildren.”
“Arrangement for his interment will be announced by the family shortly.” he added
Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has commiserated with his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the death of his father, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folurunsho AbdulRazaq.
The AbdulRazaqs of Ilorin Emirate of Kwara State had earlier announced the passing of their patriarch and statesman, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho Abdul-Razaq SAN (OFR) at the age of 93 in Abuja.
The late patriarch who was the Mutawali of Ilorin and Tafida of Zazzau(Zaria) as well as Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, was said to have died peacefully at about 2a.m. on Saturday, July 25.
Bello in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, said he received the news of the death with great shock and sadness.
He urged Governor AbdulRazaq to take solace in the fact that the late patriarch lived a good life which made great impacts not only on his immediate family members by virtue of the illustrious children he has produced, but the nation at large.
According to him, the late patriarch believed to be one of the foremost lawyers produced in the Northern Region had left great landmarks in the legal profession having rose to the enviable height of SAN in his professional calling.
Bello commiserated with the immediate family members of the late patriarch, the Ilorin Emirate Council, and good people of Kwara State over the loss, just as he prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased Aljanna fidaus.

Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole said he received with grief the sad news of the demise of the father of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara state – Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Folohunsho AbdulRazaq (SAN) who died early this morning at the age of 93.
He said it is devastating and painful to lose a loved one like a father who remained the pillar of the family until his departure into eternal rest this morning, describing his death at this time as a colossal loss to the state, the legal profession and Nigeria at large.
He said according to records, Baba Abdulganiyu Folohunsho AbdulRazaq (SAN served Nigeria as a special member of the Northern House of Assembly from 1960 – 1962 following the Country’s independence, he was also the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Ivory Coast between 1962 to 1964 and later, member of the Federal Parliament from 1964 to 1966 as the Federal Cabinet Minister of State for Transport, before he became the first Kwara State Commissioner of Finance, Health and Social welfare from 1967 – 1972 and Chairman, Nigeria body of Benchers until his demise.
He noted that death is an expected end of every mortal and enjoined Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and other family members to take solace in the words of Allah (SWT) which say for everything under the sun there is a time, a time to be born, and a time to die, urging them to uphold his legacy being the first Lawyer in Northern Nigeria and the first to establish a private secondary school in Ilorin, the Kwara state Capital.
Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole, on behalf of his family, the entire members of the 7th Assembly, management and staff of the Kogi State House of Assembly wish to commiserate with his immediate family, the Emir of Ilorin, HRH, Alh. Dr. Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, Government and people of Kwara State over the demise of their father and illustrious son, praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss
He therefore prayed Allah (SWT) to forgive the deceased and grant him eternal rest.
