The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that they will remain focused and united amidst plots by governor Yahaya Bello to woo top officials of the party to tye All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to Publicity Secretary, Prince Bode Ogunmola in a statement, the party berated the ruling party for failing in its responsibility to protect the citizens and accused government instead of sponsoring violence against them.
It also commiserated with the families of those killed during the election and insisted that security agencies must find their killers and bring them to book.
The Chief of Staff to the governor, Alhaji Abdulkareem Asuku in the last few weeks met with critical stakeholders across party lines to ensure a smooth take-off for his second tenure next year.
Some of the stakeholders he has already visited for consultations are three former Deputy Governors. He met with Chief Patrick Adaba, now a PDP chieftain, who was deputy to Late Abubakar Audu under the defunct All Peoples Party, APP.
The other two are deputy governors under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, platform. They are Philip Salawu and Abayomi Awoniyi. Salawu is now a member of Labour Party. He held separate meetings with the men last week.
He also met with his kinsman and State Chairman of the PDP, Engr. Samuel Ohuotu. Others are fellow party member Sen. Mohammed Salami Ohiare.
It was gathered that former governors, political office holders, irrespective of party affiliations, religious leaders and other prominent sons and daughters of the State are penciled down for dialogue.
The Kogi PDP, however have raised eyebrows over the meeting of the party’s chairman with officials of the APC-led government.
Many are worried the development would leave the party divided over the plan by its governorship candidate, Engineer Musa Wada to challenge the of November 16 governorship election in court.
But the PDP after its state executive meeting at the weekend dismissed this fear, saying it has resolved to pursue its case at the tribunal to reclaim its “mandate freely given by the electorate.”
