Ahead of the 2023 general elections, members of the ruling All Progressive Congress in Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi State has warned against imposition of unpopular candidate as the standard bearer of the party as that might be counter-productive.
This was disclosed yesterday by Chief Adefemi Ojo, a chieftain of the party in the area, according to him it will not be productive for the leadership of the party to impose someone that is not known to the party and the people, stressing that such imposition will not help the party at the general elections.
Chief Adefemi said the party must learn a lesson from what happened in 2019 where imposition led to the emergence of weak candidate that made PDP to win the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal Constituency a repeat of such scenario they don’t want, appealed to the leadership of the party to entrench internal party democracy that will give all contestants a level playing ground to participate in a primary.
“As a members of our great party in this constituency, we must be able to speak up so that the party will not derail from our long standing principles of fairness, equity and justice.
“It therefore becomes important to note that Kabba/Bunu is an important and civilize constituency in the political permutations of our dear state, our party must not allow some politicians to highjacked the party.
“2023 therefore becomes a very defining moment for members of the party in constituency to contribute their quota to ensure we have a successful outing in next year’s general elections.
He said the party must demonstrate a strong and just will to ensure that no one is accorded undue advantage over another, rather all contestants must be freely allowed to test their popularity at the primary so that delegates can elect the best who eventually becomes the candidate of the party.
