The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that the review after the Single Tertiary Matriculation screening (according to UTME) for the 2020 admission process at universities, technical colleges and colleges will begin on September 7, 2020 at the earliest in education in the country.
The Board announced that the change to the admission process date from the previously announced 21 August affects the admission of candidates taking the SSCE exam this year.
This was revealed by JAMB Secretary Prof. Ishaq Oloyede on Monday after a virtual consultative meeting with vice chancellors, chancellors and provosts from universities.
JAMB believes that as long as we continue to conduct deliberations when we need to make decisions,we all have to come together and make decisions.As you may know,WAEC is currently starting high school diploma exams on August 17,which will run until September 7.
Likewise, NABTEB will begin its own exams on or after September 21,which will run until October 15,and soon after,NECO will start on September 5 and run until November 18.
Rather than forcing candidates to apply,especially when they have to take a school exam in a different city and rush to UTME to another university like someone rushing from Sokoto to Ibadan to apply. UTME,we believe,as custodians of the highest sector of the education system, we must avoid this,said Oloyede.
The chairman of JAMB said that an institution that is obliged to review its UTME for applicants must disseminate such an exercise in two stages.
He said:For (institutions) that wish to post-UTME, this should not be before September 7 and will take place twice from September 7 to October 4 and then for a second on November 18 to remove those taking the school leave exam.
Oloyede, who praised various statements made by college leaders during the meeting, said facilities that conduct admissions without conducting UTME screening should also ensure that applicants whose SSCE results are published at the end of the year have them. does not refuse to participate in acceptance exercises.
The JAMB clerk also announced that the board had rejected the results of candidates being held in prisons (prisons) on UTME’s alleged irregularities this year.
