According to a news that was posted by Punch Newspaper this morning, it has been alleged that Nigeria’s former Head of State and democratic president, Chief Matthew Olusegun Obasanjo as narrated how he was saved from February, 1976 coup that was carried out by Lieutenant Colonel Buka Dimka and his men.
Olusegun Obasanjo talking at the birthday celebration party of Retired General Olu Bajowa that was held in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State said that, it was General Bajowa that indirectly saved him from the failed coup that was carried against him and his tenure.
He said on that morning the coup was to be carried out, General Bajowa’s wife just gave birth to a baby boy and General Olu Bajowa called him that morning that he will be coming over to his place because, he wants to name his child after him (Olusegun Obasanjo) and due to the fact that General Bajowa was humble and respectful, he told him to come despite the fact that he was already late to office.
After the both of them met that morning, Lieutenant Colonel Buka Dimka and his men saw convoy coming and thought it was Olusegun Obasanjo that was inside not knowing that it was Murtala and Reinmuje that were inside and due to that, they opened fire on the car and the people inside, killing General Murtala Mohammed immediately.
He further said if not that he went late to office that morning due to the fact that General Bajowa delayed him, he would have been dead by now.
