When the present Administration of Governor Yahaya  Bello assumed office in 2016, it is no exaggeration to say that there were dilapidated and near failed roads across the three Senatorial districts of the State.
The roads in the state capital, Lokoja was also in very sorry state. But in his usual approach, amidst scarce resources, the governor took the bull by the horns, considered it a big challenge that must be surmounted and immediately swung into action by embarking on full-scale repairs and total rehabilitation of roads across the three Senatorial Districts in fulfillment of his new Direction Agenda.
The good news about the efforts of  Governor Bello is his frantic efforts to permanently put in place roads that would stand the test of time, especially the strategic roads across the state to ensure free flow of traffic in spite of incessant rainfall. In such cases, all road constructed by this administration, is fitted with drainages and walkways.
The state government determination to put roads in good motorable state has led to the completion of several roads that have been done in Kogi East, particularly the Okpo-Ankpa, iga-ikeje-Ogugu centre in Olamaboro, Idah-umomi- Ejule road.
Also executed in the central senatorial district are Itakpe -Eika-Kuroko road, Obehira, Agassa roads, total junction -Ohinoyi, while roads in the remotest areas in upogboro, kogi central, and many more others have received facelift.
In the western senatorial district of Kogi State, the Ekinrin-Ade – Ohun – Ife-Olukotun road is the road that connect other roads in Okunland and several other roads are on going.
The governor’s passion to ameliorate the sufferings and pains of commuters, ensured the commencement of the full-scale rehabilitation work in the mentioned areas even though, the rains have not been friendly, but the government is still committed to carrying out quality job.
According to one of the Directors in the ministry of works, “ the contractors had to fix their plants and equipments, even though the rain slowed down their speed of delivery. However, things are getting better and we will go all out to ensure that the major roads along Ganaja is fixed in line with Governor Yahaya Bello’s directive because he feels the pain of the people and commuters across the State”, he added.
Records shows that rehabilitation works are ongoing in 26 different locations. The state government was fully aware of the public expectation on the state of the roads in Ganaja, little wonder, the ministry of works has said the governor is very concerned about the road, stressing that the road will soon be rehabilitated and ensure its maintenance at all time.
“The understanding and cooperation of all residents and road users across the state is required, while the state government is working assiduously to ensure the city of Lokoja is rid of potholes in due course as directed by the Governor of the State”. This is according to the Kogi State Commissioner for Works, while underscoring the commitment of Gov. Yahaya Bello to make roads in the state motorable.
