Adankolo New Layout was agog on friday as Dr. Nda Diche and Zainab Lilichi Abu celebrated their traditional engagement in a ceremony that blended culture, glamour, and heartfelt prayers.
The event, held at No. 738 Adankolo New Layout, drew a convergence of top politicians, traditional rulers, media practitioners, friends, associates, and prominent citizens from across Kogi State and beyond who came to honour the union and felicitate with the families.
The atmosphere was electric from the onset. Traditional drummers set the tone with rhythmic beats, while the Bassan’ge cultural troupe took centre stage with energetic dance displays in full traditional regalia. Their performance drew loud cheers and applause from guests, adding authentic Kogi flavour to the occasion.
Dressed in matching traditional attire, the bride and groom radiated joy as they were formally presented to families and guests in line with cultural rites. Parents, elders, and well-wishers took turns offering prayers for love, peace, and prosperity in the new home.
Speaking during the ceremony, a family elder prayed that the union of Dr. Nda Diche and Zainab Lilichi Abu would be blessed with understanding, unity, and long life. “Marriage is a sacred institution. May God guide them, may their home be peaceful, and may their love grow stronger each day,” he said.
Guests described the engagement as one of the most colourful in Lokoja this year, commending the families for preserving culture while celebrating love in grand style.
The ceremony ended on a high note with well-wishers showering the couple with prayers, gifts, and goodwill messages amid music and dancing.
The Islamic wedding, Nikkah, is scheduled to hold at the same venue on Saturday by 10am, while the wedding reception will follow at Idrinana Hotel, Lokoja by 2pm. Dignitaries from within and outside the state are expected to grace both events.
