The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi state says it has so far registered over 25,000 people in the ongoing continuous Voters Registration Exercise in the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (INEC), Professor James Akpam disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in his office in Lokoja.
Professor Akpam said that in the first and second quarter the total application was 13,579 while other types of application include Permanent Voter’s Card replacement which amount to 1,608 and voter transfer was 5,426
According to him, Information update has the total of 1,851and the review also has over 1,427 while Pre- Registration online has almost 3,579 only.
Professor Akpam who debunked the rumour making round that some staff of the commission were found collecting money for the update, said that is false coming from elements who are held bent to tarnish the good records of the commission.
He explained that only those who did their registration online at the Cyber cafe were subjected to pay for service charge at their business centres
The commissioner warned staff of the commission not to embark on any fraudulent acts and desist forthwith as anyone found guilty would be punished in accordance of the commission’s rules.
He stressed that the commission is presently going round the state to monitor the level of compliance at the various Local government Areas of the state.
Professor Apam disclosed that the commission’s Local Government areas offices are opened to the citizens to obtained their Permanent Voter’s Card ahead of 2023 general elections.
