THE All Progressives Congress, (APC) Kogi state chapter has assured members of the part of free, fair and credible local government council primary slated for Friday.
The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, while addressing the returning officers on Thursday for the forthcoming Parties Primaries, he used urged them to follow due diligent in the discharge of there assignment.
He said the party’s constitution allows for three modes of Primaries, however said that the party in state has opted for the consensus approach, asked them to be diligent in there assignment.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bello assured that with the party’s performance in previous elections, expressed optimism of a clean sweep of the December 12, council polls.
The chairman described the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello as a focused and visionary leader, whose advise and direction has brought peace to the party, adding that the party is now more formidable and positioned to face any challenge.
According to him, the party choosed the concensus option in the selection of its chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the 21 council areas, as enshrined in the Constitution of the party to reduce tension and crisis among members of the party.
He charged the officials to be transparent in their conduct and treat everyone equally, saying that they must not take side in the exercise.
“Our party has been very successful from the Presidential, national Assembly, state houses of Assembly and the governoship elections in the state. We are also confident of overwhelming victory in the council election.
“We have chosen the concensus option as enshrined in the Constitution of our party. We have indirect, direct and concensus options for selecting our candidates. The concensus option has helped us. Yes as a Party, we have pockets of complaint in one or two councils which we are resolving.
“But to a very large extent. This option has helped us greatly. It has reduced tension, our people are cooperating and I expect a hitchfree exercise.
He called on members of the party to cooperate with the officials, adding that the officials have been told to adhere strictly with the rules governing the conduct of the primary election as contained in the APC constitution.
He solicited support of party members towards a hitch free polls, said the party is committed to a one United family.
Highlight of the program was the inauguration of the returning officers by the chairman and subsequent release of materials for the primaries to the returning officers.
