Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has distributed 100 tractors and educational materials to the 21 local government councils in the state and charged farmers to be more committee to food production in order to attained the national food sufficiency policy of the country.
Governor Bello who gave the charge in Lokoja during the official government areas of the state , said that the farm implement was distributed to enhance the farm activities to boost food production in the state.
The governor who noted that the 2020 distribution of 100 tractors was not the first since he came on board , stated that in 2017 and 2018 similar implement and crops seedlings was distributed to Kogi farmers to encourage them in massive food production.
“We have engaging in agricultural activities to enable our farmers produce enough food for our people and even for export to generate income.
“As the flood rescind, we are preparing to empower farmers in yen local government areas affected by flood to perform optimally so that they can regain what they have lost to flooding” he said
He urged the beneficiaries of the tractors to utilise the tractors judiciously to the purpose it was meant for.
In his remark, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs , Barrister Salami Deedat , described the distribution of the 100 tractors to the local government areas of the state as major revolution in the agricultural sector that has the capacity to guarantee food security of the state.
He pointed out that the lofty initiative of the state governor through all inclusive governance propelled the 21 local governments to harnessed and mobilised resources for the procurement of the tractors and educational material been distributed to the councils.
The Royal Father , Ohimege Igu of Koton-Karfe Alhaji Abdulrazak Isah Koto in his
goodwill message , described the distribution of the tractors to farmers as a stepping stone to the attainment of food security in Kogi state.
While appealing to the state government to assist the farmers with seedlings, the Royal Father charged the farmers to use the tractors judiciously to spur the governor to do more for farmers in the state.
