Fully armed bandits on Sunday afternoon invaded Orie market at Agbedo community, Apayan in Igalamela/Odolu Local Area of Kogi State killed one person and abducted many people.

It was gathered that the kidnappers have demanded for the sum of N20 million as ransom from the family of the victims.

An eyewitness account discosed that the fully armed gunmen numbering over 20 stormed the market on Sunday at about 2 pm and started shooting sporadically to scare the people in the market.

The shooting by bandits caused pandemonium in the market as people were running for safety, as the bandit also raided a shop that bong to one Johnson and killed him on the spot, the bandits then kidnapped one Edwin and many others on the market day.

The source said that the suspected gunmen have demanded for the sum of N20 million as ransom for the release of the abducted people.

It was reliably gathered that Sunday incident is the third time in a row when suspected gunmen would attacked the market and abduct people and later demanded for ransom.

Investigations further revealed that the suspected hoodlums are taking advantage of thick forest between Apayan in Kogi State and the boundary of Enugu and Anambra States to perpetrate their evil acts .

Sources further revealed that the people of Agbedo community in Apayain district of Igalamela/Odolu Local government area of Kogi State have continued to Appeal to the State government and security agencies in the state to come to their aid from the incessant attacks on the defenceless people on market days in the area.

When contacted, the Kogi State Police Public Relation officer, SP Willy Aya confirmed the incident.

He stated that it was case of invasion on One Johnson’s shop after being killed, one Edwin was abducted along many others on the market day .

He however said that the state police command under the Commissioner, Edward Egbuka has mobilised officers to fish out the hoodlums and rescued the kidnapped person without hurts
