The internal dynamics of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja shifted as a group of party founding fathers publicly declared their support for Senator Sunday Karimi, rejecting claims of a vote of no confidence against him.

In a statement issued in Lokoja and signed by Hon. Ibrahim Adamu, the elders dismissed the reports as false and politically motivated, accusing unnamed individuals of attempting to sow discord within the party as the 2027 general elections approach.

They clarified that no recognized stakeholders’ meeting was held to pass such a resolution, stressing that the claims do not represent the views of genuine APC members in Lokoja. According to them, the alleged decision is nothing more than a “manufactured narrative” aimed at weakening the senator’s influence.

Reaffirming their loyalty, the group described Senator Karimi as a significant force within the APC in Kogi West, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and chances of securing another term in office.

They further characterized the purported vote of no confidence as a “political ploy driven by desperation,” cautioning against actions that could destabilize the party. The elders called on members to prioritize unity and avoid divisive tendencies.

“The claim of a vote of no confidence is baseless and holds no legitimacy. It is the product of individuals who lack both authority within the party and the mandate of the people,” the statement noted.

The incident underscores intensifying political activity within the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. While disagreements within party ranks are common, the public nature of this dispute suggests underlying tensions within the local structure.

Political analysts believe that if not properly managed, such developments could deepen divisions. At the same time, they point to the growing interest in the Kogi West senatorial race, with various stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the contest.

For Senator Karimi, the endorsement from APC founding members in Lokoja provides a measure of political reinforcement amid the controversy. However, the evolving situation indicates that factors such as party cohesion, performance, and public opinion will play decisive roles in the unfolding political landscape.

As the situation develops, the stance of the APC elders signals firm resistance to what they describe as attempts to undermine the senator through unfounded claims, though its broader impact within the party remains uncertain.
