The Kogi State Police Command has denied the allegation that the ADC to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello led Police officers and mounted a stop and search at Banda along Lokoja-Abuja express road of the state.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the spokesperson of the Command, Mr. William Aya.
According to him, the story is not only the figment of the imagination of the authors, but totally false, malicious and highly mischievous.
“The Commissioner of Police in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu NPM, mni to check illegal deployment of Police personnel to VIPs, directed the Squadron Commander, 37 Police Mobile Force, CSP Muhammad S. Mohammed to carry out aggressive stop and search to check the movement of arms and illegal deployment of Police personnel in Kogi State being the gate way to between States from North and South.
“The Command wish to State categorically clear that the operation was legal and directed by Commissioner of Police so as to nip in the bud any acts capable of disrupting the electoral process in the State. It was strictly Police operation which has nothing to do with the ADC to the State Governor.
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police urge all peace loving citizens of Kogi State and the country at large to discountenance such misleading information but gravitate towards issues that unite the State rather than those that divide us,” he added.
