Operatives of the Kabba Area Command of the Kogi State Police Command have intercepted 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and arrested two suspects during a stop-and-search operation in Kabba.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that the operation was carried out as part of ongoing intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention efforts across the state.

According to the police commissioner, the operatives intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE at about 2:00 p.m. The vehicle was reportedly driven by 52-year-old Chris Amos, while one Bilat Joseph was said to be the passenger.

Kankarofi explained that a search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of 342 wraps of suspected narcotic substances concealed inside the car.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspects allegedly collected the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State on the instruction of a man identified simply as “Alhaji,” whose identity is still being investigated.

The suspects reportedly informed investigators that the consignment was meant to be delivered in Yola, Adamawa State.

The police commissioner said the two suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to uncover other members of the alleged drug trafficking network.

Kankarofi described illicit drug trafficking as a major factor fueling violent crimes and other criminal activities, stressing that the Command would sustain aggressive operations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates and curbing the movement of narcotics through Kogi State.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police for providing strategic support to the Command and also appreciated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for backing security operations in the state.

The CP further thanked members of the public for providing useful information that aided the successful operation and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality.
