The Lokoja Forum of Democrats has strongly rejected the call for “continuity” being canvassed in some quarters for the representative of Lokoja I Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, citing what it described as a “dismal and disappointing performance.”

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim, and Secretary, Isah Yakubu, the forum expressed deep concern over what it termed a lack of tangible achievements and meaningful representation for the people of Lokoja I.

The forum noted that despite the expectations placed on elected officials, the constituency has witnessed “little or no impactful projects” that directly improve the lives of the people.

“We find it difficult to justify the call for continuity when there is no visible evidence of constituency projects that address the needs of our people in areas such as infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social welfare,” the statement read.

According to the forum, effective representation goes beyond occupying a seat in the assembly, stressing that legislative duties must include sponsoring bills that have direct and positive impact on constituents.

“It is on record that there has been no significant bill sponsorship or legislative initiative that directly benefits Lokoja I Constituency. Representation must translate into action, not mere presence,” the forum stated.

The group further lamented what it described as the lawmaker’s lack of accessibility to constituents, adding that leadership requires constant engagement with the people.

“Our people deserve a representative who is accessible, responsive, and committed to addressing their concerns. Unfortunately, this has not been the case,” the statement added.

The Lokoja Forum of Democrats therefore called on stakeholders and constituents to critically assess the performance of their representatives and make informed decisions ahead of future elections.

“We urge the good people of Lokoja I to prioritize competence, accountability, and proven commitment over slogans of continuity that are not backed by performance,” the statement concluded.

Signed:
Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim
Chairman, Lokoja Forum of Democrats

Isah Yakubu
Secretary, Lokoja Forum of Democrats.
