The political landscape of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency has experienced a noticeable shift this year, following the absence of former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mathew Olusola Kolawole, from active party engagements.

Grassroots members and party faithful have expressed growing concerns over a leadership vacuum that has emerged in his absence.

Party activities, which were once vibrant and structured under his guidance, have reportedly slowed down, with no clear leadership to carry members along. Meetings that once provided platforms for members to express themselves and influence decision-making have become rare, leaving many feeling disconnected and unheard.

“We really miss his presence,” said a senior APC member from Kabba. “He was a leader who knew how to unite us, organize us, and ensure everyone had a voice. Now, there is no one coordinating or looking out for the members at the grassroots.”

Beyond organizational concerns, party members also note a decline in tangible benefits and engagement for loyal APC supporters.

Programs that once empowered the grassroots, encouraged participation, and fostered unity have dwindled, leading to frustration among active members.

Political observers argue that the current situation highlights the critical role Rt. Hon. Kolawole played in sustaining the APC’s strength in Kabba/Bunu Ijumu.

His experience, leadership, and ability to mobilize the grassroots are being deeply felt in the day-to-day operations or the lack thereof within the party.

As the APC prepares for upcoming elections, many members are increasingly aware that strong and visible leadership at the grassroots level is indispensable.

The absence of a seasoned leader like Kolawole underscores the importance of active engagement, structured leadership, and consistent communication with party faithful.

In conclusion, while the APC remains a major political force in Kabba/Bunu Ijumu, the current vacuum at the grassroots serves as a reminder: the party thrives when leaders who understand and prioritize the people are present and engaged.
