Four persons lost their lives following a communal clash between armed Fulani herdsmen and residents of Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lokoja.

Rt. Hon. Egwaba, who represents Ibaji State Constituency in the Assembly, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, particularly in Ejule Ojebe community.

“I am deeply saddened by reports of violent clashes between Ibaji communities—particularly Ejule Ojebe—and Fulani herdsmen in parts of Ibaji Local Government Area, including the tragic loss of lives in Ejule Ojebe,” she said.

“This painful incident has brought immense grief to the affected families and the entire community. I strongly condemn all acts of violence and reiterate that no misunderstanding should ever lead to the loss of innocent lives or the disruption of peaceful coexistence.”

The lawmaker extended her condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for divine comfort and strength for them in the difficult time.

“I call on security agencies and relevant authorities to move swiftly to restore peace, protect lives and property, and bring the perpetrators to justice. There is also an urgent need for proactive and lasting solutions to address the underlying causes of these tensions and prevent a recurrence,” she added.

She further urged community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of escalating the situation.

“As your representative, I remain committed to working with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to ensure the safety of our communities and the preservation of peace in Ibaji,” Egwaba stated.

She concluded by praying for God’s comfort for the bereaved families and lasting peace in the affected communities.
