Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has extended medical and food outreaches to over 500 beneficiaries at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital, Okene, through her foundation, the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative (OEI).

The outreach, benefitted pregnant women, patients, and staff reinforcing the First Lady’s vision of easing the burden on vulnerable groups and strengthening support for the weak across communities in Kogi State.

During the visit, Hajia Sefinat Ododo presented antenatal kits, medical supplies, food items, and cash gifts to pregnant women and many others aimed at supporting them during pregnancy and encouraging proper antenatal care and recovery from ailments.

Addressing the expectant mothers, the First Lady explained that the outreach was designed to bring succour and encouragement, especially at a critical period of their lives. She prayed for their safe delivery and urged them to prioritize their health by attending antenatal clinics regularly.

The First Lady also toured the maternity ward, male and female medical wards, surgical wards, as well as the accident and emergency unit, where she donated food items, medical supplies, and cash gifts to over patients receiving treatment at the facility.

Hospital staff, including nurses, attendants, and security personnel, were not left out, as they also benefitted from food items and cash support through the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative in appreciation of their dedication and service to humanity.

In addition, Hajia Sefinat Ododo paid for C.T. scans, surgical procedures, and discharge bills for some patients, offering much-needed relief to families facing financial challenges.

Mrs Ododo also used the opportunity to call on mothers in Ebiraland to intensify efforts in protecting their children from drug abuse, noting that illicit drug use continues to have devastating effects on individuals, families, and society at large.

She disclosed that plans were underway to establish a comprehensive drug rehabilitation centre in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, adding that 20 individuals are currently undergoing rehabilitation through the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative.

The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to sustained humanitarian outreach, promising to continue supporting vulnerable women, expectant and nursing mothers across in parts of Kogi State.
