Abuja-based architect, Nathaniel Orayen Mosisuga, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating and securing the approval of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement released in Abuja, Mosisuga described the appointment as “a pivotal step toward restoring integrity and confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.”

He praised Professor Amupitan as “a man of rare integrity, discipline, and intellectual depth,” noting that such attributes are essential for rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.

“The integrity and precision that Professor Amupitan has demonstrated throughout his career are exactly what INEC needs at this critical juncture,” Mosisuga said. “As a professional who values structure and accountability, I recognize in him the same principles that define excellence in any field.”

Professor Amupitan’s nomination was unanimously approved by the National Council of State on Thursday, October 9, 2025, marking the beginning of a new phase for Nigeria’s electoral leadership. He succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served two terms spanning ten years.

Mosisuga’s commendation adds to the growing wave of goodwill messages from across the country, including that of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who described the nominee as “a man of integrity and substance.”

Born 58 years ago in Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Professor Amupitan currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos. He is a renowned authority in Law of Evidence, a specialization Mosisuga described as “symbolic of the transparency and verifiability that credible elections demand.”

In line with constitutional provisions, President Tinubu will transmit Amupitan’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation. If cleared, he will become the 13th substantive INEC Chairman since Nigeria’s independence.

His immediate mandate will include overseeing the Anambra State off-cycle governorship election slated for November 8, 2025, as well as the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections scheduled for February 2026.

Expressing confidence in the nominee’s capacity, Mosisuga said Amupitan’s blend of academic excellence and administrative experience would be an asset to the commission.

“Having served as Dean of Law and contributed immensely to legal scholarship, Professor Amupitan is well-equipped to steer INEC toward fairness, credibility, and institutional reform,” he added.
“As he steps into this vital national assignment, we wish him divine wisdom, courage, and clarity to safeguard the sanctity of every vote.”
