The National Executive Council (NEC), of Ebira People’s Association (EPA) has appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene on the issue of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha and the Senate President and restore sanity in the Senate.
This is contained in a communique issued and signed by President General, Dr. Godwin Oyibo at the end of emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC), held in Okene.
The meeting deliberated on the unilateral decision of the Senate leadership to prolong the illegal suspension of Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha, who is the voice of the Kogi Central Senatorial District (which is Ebira people) in the 10th Senate.
The council not d that after an extensive deliberations, the NEC
condemned unequivocally, this unwarranted harsh treatment meted out by the leadership of the 10th Senate and ostensibly targeted at our daughter, Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha for which the entire people of Kogi Central became the victim.
The council also called on the leadership of the 10th Senate to respect his oath of office and uphold the rule of law by allowing the sanctity of democratic representation to prevail at all times under his leadership. By doing so, history will be very kind to him in his tenure in office.
The communique noted that the six months suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha was certainly not in good faith, in the considered general opinion of the Senator’s constituents.
“The current indefinite extension of the expired contentious six months suspension of the Distinguished Senator as implied in the letter from the Clerk of the National Assembly, on the prompting of the Senate leadership has exposed the initial motive, which has never been related to the violation of the Senate rules on the sitting arrangements.
“The Council viewed this latest development as a ploy to prevent the entire Kogi Central Senatorial District from having a voice in the National Assembly and consequently deny the electorate the constitutionally guaranteed political representation in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was also highlighted that as it stands, the 10th Senate has inadvertently breached its own resolution of the 6th March, 2025, without an enabling resolution to back the claim of an indefinite suspension.
The council added that as a matter of importance that Kogi Central Senatorial District have accumulated some matters of urgent importance requiring the Distinguished Senator’s presentation on the floor of the Senate, which could not be placed before her during this long period of distraction
“The NEC hopes that our distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha will hopefully resume with her colleagues at the end of their ongoing vacation by the grace of God, who created both the powerful and the weak in any nation”.
