Honourable Idrees Aliyu Maikudi, the member representing Kogi/ State Constituency at the State House of Assembly, has strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of the Honourable Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Chief Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, in Kogi Local Government.

The Commissioner, who narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday July 25, 2025, while returning to his hometown of Gegu Beki after attending an event at the palace of the Ohimegye Igu Koton Karfe.

Unknown assailants ambushed his convoy, firing shots in an apparent attempt on his life. However, due to the swift intervention of his security detail, the commissioner came out unharmed.

Several prominent government officials traveled with the Commissioner Gegu’s convoy during the incident, including Hon. Abdulmalik Musa, Executive Chairman of Kogi Local Government; Hon. Abdullahi Idowu, Senior Special Assistant on Road Maintenance and Pipeline Regulations to Kogi State Governor; Hon. Ibrahim Said; and other local and ward special assistants (LSAs and WSAs). Miraculously, no one in the convoy was injured

In the wake of the tragic event, Hon. Idrees Aliyu Maikudi through his media office on Friday evening lambasted the attack as uncivilized and unacceptable, stemming from Commissioner Gegu’s broad-based support in Kogi Local Government and beyond.

The Kogi LG lawmaker implored security agencies to heighten surveillance and employ proactive tactics to safeguard citizens and maintain order.

Moreover, he solicited cooperation from community leaders and youth groups with security operatives to foster peace and security in the area.

Hon. Idrees Maikudi reconfirmed his resolve to peace and socio-economic advancement, in line with Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo’s policy of zero tolerance towards crime.
