A non governmental Organisation, Challenge Parenthood Initiative in conjunction with ActionAid Nigeria had organised health outreach and donated relief materials to flood victims in some communities in Kogi state.

The communities are Onumaye and Odama-Magajiya and Galilee communities located in Kogi and Lokoja local government areas the state.

The Executive Director of Challenge Parenthood Initiative, Eunice Agbogun while addressing the flood victims on Tuesday IDP camp, she said the challenge currently faced by victims that are still residing in some unstructured temporal shelters include but are not limited to lack of basic facilit s such as water, food, hygiene items and suitable place to lay their heads.

She noted that some flood victims and their families sleep outside, without mosquito nets, thereby exposing themselves to disease outbreaks such as Cholera, typhoid, malaria and many more.

Eunice Agbogun stressed that these emerging issues informed the intervention by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with Challenged Parenthood Initiative to give out relief materials under the project Humanitarian Assistance/Support for Women and Girls affected by the 2022 flood in Kogi state, targeting flood victims in Onumaye and Odama-Magajiya communities located in Kogi local government area of the state who have not received food and medical interventions.

According to her, the Emergency Response for the Onumaye and Odama-Magajiya communities in Kogi local government area, and Galilee in Lokoja local government area were delivered by a team of Challenged Parenthood Initiative in partnership with ActionAid Nigeria with funding from Global Affairs Canada under the Strategic Opportunity Fund.

She said that this intervention which packaged rice, indomie, vegetable oil, salt, Maggie, detergent and medical soap, bar soap, toothpaste and brush, and sanitary pad is also collaborating with the Kofi State Ministry of Health which donated drugs and Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Kogi state chapter who are volunteering free medical checkups and sensitization for the target communities.
