After the world cup heartbreak and ahead of the qualifying matches for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set plans in motion to appoint a substantive foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles.
There are reports going around that because of the limited time in appointing a new coach, the NFF might not leave the window open for all interested coaches but rather it would use the shortlist drawn up in the last exercise after the dismissal of the former technical adviser of the super eagles, Gernot Rohr.
According to reports, the Nigerian Football Federation will still consider the three previously shortlisted coaches before Austin Eguavoen was asked to take the Super Eagles to the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon. This coaches are: Portuguese Jose Peseiro, Serbian Mladen Krstajic as well as one unnamed coach.
Peseiro, who was to be appointed after the interview on the recommendation of AS Roma coach, Jose Mourinho, could not assumed duties after Eguavoen was asked to continue due to the performances of the team after the African Cup Of Nations.
Recall that Jose Paseiro was a former Real Madrid assistant coach. On the part of Mladen Krstajic, the Serbian discontinued his interest in coaching the Super Eagles after he joined Israeli side, Maccabi Tel Aviv.
However, it is gathered that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has informed the Nigerian Football Federation that it would not be able to foot the wage bill of the new foreign coach. The implication of this is that the football federation must seek for sponsors in order to pay the incoming coach.
