Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi State have adopted a former member of the House of Representatives and PDP deputy governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Hon Aro Samuel Bamidele as their sole candidate for the May, 2022 PDP senatorial primaries in Kogi West Zone.
The senatorial district consists of three federal constituencies, namely Yagba, Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu and Lokoja/Kotonkarfe.
The adoption of Aro, an oil magnate and Businessman was contained in a statement issued in Lokoja on Tuesday by the Secretary, Yagba PDP Forum, Hon Philip Orebiyi.
In a unanimous decision at the end of deliberations in the meeting held at the residence of former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Arc Yomi Awoniyi in Mopa, Mopamuro Local Council, at the weekend, the statement declared that Aro who emerged as the “Unity Candidate” for the Senate category of the primary elections, will be joined by Hon Tolorunjuwon Joseph Faniyi as consensus candidate for the House of Representatives category.
Faniyi represented Yagba in the Green Chamber between 2003 to 2007.
Similarly, the duo of Hon Sunday Mayaki, and Hon Jones Daniel, emerged as concensus candidates of the party for Yagba West and Mopamuro State Constituency primaries/elections, respectively.
According to the statement signed by Orebiyi, the meeting whose agenda was to discuss the right modalities to prepare the party in the area for the forthcoming elections, mainly Senate, House of Representatives and State Constituencies elections in Yagba Federal Constituency, had in attendance “very eminent”, Yagba PDP leaders.
“After thorough deliberation, the meeting resolved through a motion moved by His Excellency, Arc Yomi Awoniyi and seconded by Chief Henry Ojuola to support Hon Samuel Bamidele Aro who emerged unity candidate for Senate, Hon T J. Faniyi for house of representative and the Duo of Hon Sunday Maiyaki and Hon Jones Daniel for the House of Assembly seats of Yagba West and Mopamuro Local Governments respectively”.
“It was noted that the same consensus arrangement for the Yagba East State constituency is in progress, failure which the leadership assured all of a free and fair process.
“The meeting closed with a very resounding applauses for the deliberation and the resolution”, the statement added.
