It was earlier reported that a hawker was caught with N500,000 and a $100 note in Abuja which led to her arrest for interrogations by the officials of the Social Development Secretariat, SDS, in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA.
The arrest of the 48-year-old beggar identified as Hadiza Ibrahim was confirmed by the Acting Director, Social Welfare Services of the SDS, Malam Sani Amar. Amar disclosed that Hadiza was arrested alongside other beggars on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II on Feb. 9. She was caught with N500, 000 and a $100 note which raised eyebrows and called for investigation.
However, the preliminary investigations conducted by the SDS have established that Hadiza has no links with any organized criminal syndicates contrary to the earlier misconception. The Acting Director, Social Welfare Services of the SDS made this known while addressing reporters in Abuja.
Amar disclosed that the suspect was not involved in any criminal activity. He said they gave the police in their team sufficient time to play their role and they did what they could and it was clearly established that the suspect was not into such nefarious acts.
Hence, she was cleared of wrongdoing by the officials of the Social Development Secretariat, SDS in the Federal Capital Territory, FCTA.
The preliminary investigation report on how Hadiza realized the money found on her
The Preliminary investigations conducted by the SDS revealed that the money found on the beggar was an accumulation of her N2,000 daily contribution which she had started long ago. The Acting Director said: “… We understand that Hadiza was not involved in any criminal activity and if you look at the money found in her possession, it was accumulated overtime…”
“…She was so wise to have selected the areas of her own begging business, where she realizes huge money daily” –Amar dislosed while addressing reporters in Abuja on Thursday. The investigations conducted established that Hadiza made so much money because of the location she usually stays to beg and the huge money was accumulated overtime.
