Kogi state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called federal, state and local governments to double efforts aimed at alleviating suffering in the land.
Speaking during the plenary session of Kogi state CAN in Lokoja on Tuesday, the State Chairman, Bishop John Ibenu called on government to sustain battle against insecurity.
While bemoaning the general security challenges bedeviling the nation, Bishop Ibenu noted that God has been merciful to Kogi state.
“We ask government at all levels to consider the plights of the people, return to the drawing board and propose activities that will practically alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“I urge us all to intensify prayers for the government, the land and the church for unity, peace and progress. Those who truly pray will not support any form of lawlessness,” he said.
Bishop Ibenu tasked church leaders to mobilize Christians across Kogi state to get ready to participate in the next general elections in the state and country.
He stated that every Christian, 18years and above, must register and collect their permanent voters card (PVC) to vote in 2023.
Ibenu urged all Kogites to patiently endeavour to get their PVCs.
“Another national election period has come and 2022 is going to be campaign year. This calls for serious prayer that God will show us mercy.
“Anyone who says that their votes won’t count should see the example of Anambra election.
“Everyone should vote party for the party of their choice. However, everyone should remember our Christian aspiration in governance in the choice of who to vote for,” he said.
The CAN chairman called for sustained prayers for Kogi state, the church and government.
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his consistent support for the Kogi CAN.
He said Governor Bello has been assisting all five blocs of CAN in the state on a monthly basis.
In an exhortation at the plenary session, Pastor Adeboye James Sunday of New Testament Christian Mission International, Lokoja, called on Christians to consciously work towards unity.
He enjoined Christians to avoid strife and other carnal manifestations, warning that without unity most goals will remain unattained.
Adeboye stressed that unity is powerful as it engenders progress and development.
