The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief David Edward Onoja has graciously offered Scholarship worth over N2 Million (to cover fees, books, uniforms and pocket money) to Peter Oghenetega Torere, a JSS 1 student of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Okura-Lafia in Kogi State.
Recalled that the young brilliant Peter Torere, was invited by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to recite the simplified version of the Child Rights Act on the occasion of the National Policy Dialogue on Ending Violence Against Children at the Transcorps Hilton Hotel Abuja on 17th June, 2021.
Torere, who visibly stole the event with his amazing performance of reciting the simplified version of the Child Rights Act, became the darling of the highly elated Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo and the Hon. Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen and members of the forth estate of the realm.
The story of Peter was all over the social media that he made Kogi State proud by his spectacular performance and His Excellency, the Deputy Governor who read the story had to look for the young Torere, and offered him a scholarship all through his Secondary school Education.
The deputy governor noted that he was impressed by Torere’s excellent performance and was moved to offer him scholarship to cover his secondary school education because he had made the state proud.
According to Onoja, the scholarship is to encourage the young Torere for his spectacular performance in reciting the simplified version of the Child Rights Bill whilst in Primary 4 at Kingdom Heritage Model (KHMS) Lokoja.
Speaking to our Correspondent on Sunday in Lokoja, the father of the boy, Glory Torere, expressed his profound gratitude to the Almighty God for His abundant favour, and appreciated the Deputy Governor for the good gesture towards his son.
”I am very grateful to the Almighty God for honouring my son with the scholarship award. I appreciate the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Chief Edward David Onoja, for considering my son for the scholarship, may God bless and grant him all his heart desires in Jesus name”, Torere said.
