President of the Dangote Group-Aliko Dangote-has invested enormously in peace and security in Nigeria, a security expert and academic, Dr. Adeola Adams, has said.
Dr Adeola, who is a scholar in Peace Studies and the Secretary General of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice(SPSP) was speaking at a seminar in Abuja at the weekend.
He said it was in the interest of Mr. Dangote and his conglomerate for Nigeria and indeed Africa to be stable and peaceful, and that this explains why he has been investing in peace and security in the country.
Dr Adeola, who was speaking at a lecture titled: ‘Multi Track Diplomacy: A System Approach to Peace in Nigeria’, said other critical stakeholders in ensuring there is peace in the country are: Government, faith based organization, civil society organization, international organizations, businessmen, security organizations, the educational sector, media and traditional institution.
He said Mr. Dangote’s companies have created thousands of jobs for Nigerians and Africans which is key to peace and stability.
The Dangote Group has been supporting government and the security agencies with operational facilities.
At a recent peace meeting in Abuja, Mr. Dangote said: “There is no way any job can be created without peace. We need peace for jobs to be created. And I think it is our collective responsibility for the environment to be peaceful. Security is everybody’s job. The business community is also looking at what it can contribute. If you want to be safe, then you have to contribute your own quota to be safe.”
He described Nigeria as great nation and great people given its diversity, while urging all hands to be on deck.
In an unprecedented show of philanthropy the Aliko Dangote Foundation(ADF) had donated 150 fully kitted operational vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force.
The gesture has been described as the single biggest donation ever by a private sector operator to the Nigeria police.
In a landmark support, the Dangote Cement Plc had donated 60 fully kitted operational vehicles to the Lagos and Ogun States Security Trust Fund.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation had donated a staggering 200 housing units worth N2billion to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Borno State.
Mr. Dangote, adjudged Africa’s wealthiest, has also been described as the continent’s foremost philanthropist.
He was recently named the sixth most charitable person in the world, having endowed his Aliko Dangote Foundation with a whopping $1.25billion.
