Three men who came to Niger State to buy nine locally fabricated double-barrel guns have been arrested while taking the guns to Kogi State, according to the Niger State Police Command.
The three men, Abubakar Sadiq, Danladi Abdullahi and Dadi Suleiman, were arrested by policemen from Katcha Division in Niger State while they were about to cross from the state through Kpata area of Katcha to Kogi State in a canoe with the nine guns.
According to a statement from the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, posted on its Facebook Wall, the three men were said to have come from Abugi Village in Kogi State to buy the nine guns in Beri Village, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was gathered that the men were intercepted following a tip-off after they had bought the guns and were about to move them through a canoe from the river in Kpata area of Katcha to Abugi Village in Kogi State, and during interrogation, they were said to have confessed to have come from Kogi State to buy the guns in Niger State.
According to the statement: “Based on a tip off, police operatives attached to Katcha division on 01-02-2021 intercepted and arrested three men with nine double-barrel guns.
“The men are: Abubakar Sadiq, aged 55 years; Danladi Abdullahi, aged 35 years and Dadi Suleiman, aged 25 years from Abugi Village, Kogi State.
“They were arrested at Kpata area of Katcha during an attempt to board a canoe and cross to Abugi village of Kogi State.
“When searched, nine locally fabricated double-barrel guns were recovered from them. During interrogation, they confessed to have bought the guns from Beri, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
“Case is currently under investigation after which they will be prosecuted.”
