The National President of Ogga Progressive Union (OPU), Mr Bamidele Olure, has appealed to concerned authorities to deploy policemen and other security personnel to their community to ensure their safety.
Olure made the appeal while speaking to journalists at the sideline of the funeral service for the late Ologga of Ogga, Oba Daniel Adeyeye Kumolu, at 1st ECWA Church Ogga, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi.
According to him, the community has provided a police post through community self effort only for it to be abandoned on the excuse that there is no manpower to man it by the police.
“We do not pray for insurgeny attacks, but what if there is one, who will rise to the occasion,?
“We therefore need police and security defence officers to be on ground in the community; we have the necessary facilities on ground already.
”The authorities concerned should please post police and security defence officers to our community,” he pleaded.
He added that there was no doubt that there was insecurity all over the world and security men were deployed to handle it, but security personnel were not available in Ogga.
He decried the dearth of infrastructural facilities and the abandonment of the community by all tiers of government as there were no good roads, adding that the hospital built by the community had been abandoned due to lack of necessary facilities.
”The hospital has no equipment, no drugs and no health officers in spite that the state government has taken over the hospital.
”It is pathetic that Ogga people where massive votes come from during elections, cannot access health facilities within the community except at the local government headquarters which is far off,” he said.
Olure described the late monarch as an honest leader and father who would be greatly missed by Ogga people, saying many developments were recorded during his reign through communal efforts.
