The Standup For Women Society (SWS) International President, has condemned with strong terms the phenomenon of sexual harassment against the Senator Representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The International President of SWS, Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona after watching the interview granted by the Arise Tv to Senator Natasha, calls for immediate action to be taken against Senator Akpabio until justice is served; not because of Sen. Natasha but to also serve as a deterrent to some leaders who think without intimacy with women both married and single, they cannot get what is rightfully their rights.
In a Press Statement made available to Journalists by the association’s National Public Relations Officer, Lib. Billie Nwogu, the SWS requested the court not to ignore the allegation by the Senator to ensure the culprit if found guilty, faces the full wrath of the law. Women at the workplace or on primary assignments should be protected from immorality.
Sexual harassment is a serious violation of women’s rights, dignity, and well-being. It creates a toxic work environment, undermines productivity, and perpetuates inequality.
The fact that many women still face unwanted advances, intimidation, and retaliation at work is appalling and unacceptable.
“We stand in solidarity with Sen. Natasha and countless women who have bravely shared their stories, often at great personal cost.
We demand that employers, policymakers, and individuals take concrete actions to prevent and address sexual harassment” She added.
Barr. Deborah, the SWS International President calls relevant stakeholders to create a safer, more respectful atmosphere for women even though others shy away from sharing what they pass through in the hands of some male counterpart or leaders.
SWS urges the lawmakers to establish and enforce robust anti-harassment policies and procedures.
Advocate the Lawmakers and security agents to strengthen laws and regulations protecting women from violation of rights which is contained in the VAPP Bill.
Together, we can build a culture of respect, empathy, and equality. We will continue to advocate for women’s rights and dignity in all spheres of life.
