The country’s top academics have started arriving in Abuja to brainstorm on the state of peace and security in the country.
The international conference under the aegis of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) opens on Monday and is themed: Peace and Security in the wake of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
A statement signed by the SPSP Secretary-General Dr. Adeola Adams said some of the speakers include: Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) Professor Eghosa Osaghae, Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, Emeritus Professor Godwin Sogoli, Professor Isaac Adewole, Professor Femi Peters, and Dr. Nathaniel Danjibo.
He said the upcoming event is in collaboration with the University of Ibadan and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), adding that the conference will take place at NOUN Headquarters in Abuja.
Other speakers include Professor Olawale Isaac Albert, former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, Professor Njidda Gadzama, Professor Etannibi Alamika, Professor Olufemi Otubanjo, Professor Danladi Atu, Major General Victor Okwudili Ezugwu, General Sani Usman(rtd), and Associate Professor Iroye Samuel Opeyemi, among others.
According to the statement, the Special Guest of Honour is the former Chief of Army Staff General Abdulrahman Danbazau, who is also a Fellow of SPSP.
The statement said: “Nigeria faces existential threat which has manifested in the insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping in the North, and secession threats from South East and South West of the country. It is against this backdrop that all hands must be on deck.”
The conference and SPSP AGM holding together is expected to proffer a solution to the country’s peace and security challenges.
