Our attention has been drawn to the Press Release signed by one Barrister Dauda Usman on behalf of Coalition of Youth Democratic Forces based in Lokoja published by an online blogger agitating for the speakership of the 7th Assembly of the Kogi State House of Assembly to be zoned to Lokoja/Kogi Koto Karfi federal constituency.
It is germane at this point to put the record straight without mincing words, the speakership position of Kogi State House of Assembly is not the birthright of one federal constituency and we believe in fairness, justice and equity, hence we trust our non sentimental and detribalized Governor and leadership of our great party, APC to do justice to the issue raised by the group.
According to available records, Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency has occupied the speakership position 7 times at the different time without other federal constituencies in the zone raising any dust.
It is also good to note that Kogi west is made up of three federal constituencies which are Lokoja/Koto,Yagba and Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituencies respectively.
Below are the roll call of speakership among the three federal constituency
Lokoja/koto- 7 times
Yagba- 2 times
Kabba/bunu/ijumu- 1 time of less than 2 years
However, putting into consideration the above analysis, it is apparent that Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency has not gotten its fair share of the position, hence we believe our amiable, pragmatic and energetic Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the leadership of our great party, APC will still consider the Federal constituency to have its own fair share.
The 6th Assembly currently led by Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole, member representing Kabba/Bunu from Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency has performed credibly well in all facets and also had good working relationship with the Executive which has engendered development and rapid implementation of the blue print of the New Direction Agenda led by His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello.
The leadership of Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole has really performed passing over 50 bills in 19 months with 40 being assented to by the Governor.
His leadership in the assembly has tremendously imparted positively on the lives of the citizenry which cut across the senatorial district via the bills passed into laws and quality resolutions on several motions that have been raised on the floor.
He appointed aides across the local government areas of the senatorial district which is the first of it kind in the state.
It is on this note that we are appealing to His Excellency and the party leadership, to in the spirit of fairness, justice and equity kindly allow the speakership be retained by Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency with Prince Mathew Kolawole continuing as the Speaker of the 7th Kogi State House of Assembly.
The group pledges their support to the reelection bid of His Excellency Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello to continue his good work as consolidation is all that is needed at this point in our dear state.
