The Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Alhaji Umar Yusuf Girei has assured that the Authority has been positioned to improve drastically in its service delivering to achieve the objectives of the federal government of Nigeria.
Girei stated this at NIWA on Thursday at the headquarters in Lokoja, while speaking on the outcome of the recent 2- Day Executive Anti-Corruption training with the theme: “The Art and Practice of System Integrity in Public Institutions” organized for Board members, management and area managers of the Authority held in Abuja recently.
The event was organized by NIWA in collaboration with Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC).
He said the choice of the theme was borne out of the desire of NIWA to improve on the revenue generation through blockage of leakages and prevention of corruption within the system to drive good leadership.
“Obviously, in any organization revenue is the backbone and the strength because nothing can be done without resources.
“The choice of the theme for the training was carefully chosen to enable us check what we are doing and to look inward on what we can do to generate more money for NIWA and to achieve the objectives of the federal government of Nigeria” the Acting MD explained.
Speaking on 2026 NIWA management retreat, the Acting Managing Director, said
the retreat aimed at strengthen NIWA’s systems and processes to promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and performance-driven leadership.
“The essence of the retreat is to enable us rub mind together with the board and other critical stakeholders so that there can be a wider collaboration among all the stakeholders so that together we can take NIWA to where it ought to be based on our mission and vision as spelt out by the constitution.
“With this retreat and training organized for our management staff we are now position to support the Renew Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” he stated.
